Sara Bareilles is Back!
Are you ready for the best news ever? Sara
Bareilles has just announced that she will be returning to Waitress alongside
Tony winner Gavin Creel. Sara will be reprising her role as Jenna in the
Tony-nominated hit show Waitress for the second time. She also won a Tony for
composing this fabulous show. Gavin Creel will be taking on the role of Dr.
Pomatter for the first time. The pair will play a limited run from January 7th
to February 6, 2019 succeeding Nicolette Robinson who took her final bow on
December 9th.
This past September, Bareilles and Creel dueted on the Waitress tune "Bad Idea" at a press event for the
musical's upcoming London premiere. That production will star Katharine
McPhee reprising her
Broadway turn as Jenna alongside David Hunter as Dr. Pomatter.
Based on the 2007 film by the late Adrienne Shelly, Waitress follows Jenna, a pregnant waitress in the south trapped in an abusive marriage and looking for a happy ending. She finds relief—and potentially that happy ending—by making creatively titled pies and forming a romance with an unlikely newcomer.
With a book by Jessie Nelson and a score and orchestrations by Bareilles, Waitress is directed by Diane Paulus, with choreography by Lorin Latarro and musical supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo. The musical features scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Suttirat Anne Larlarb, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind and sound design by Jonathan Deans.
Update : With their new duo, Waitress broke a million on this week's revenues (January 21st 2019)
